SEO & GEO Case Study: aioseo.fr, a GEO Blog Built from Scratch
Overview
aioseo.fr (“Good GEO is good SEO!”) is my own site: a blog about generative engine optimization and Google's AI search, launched from scratch in spring 2025. I run every part of it myself: content, technical SEO, netlinking and a WordPress stack I operate through MCP.
It is the case study I can show in full, because it's mine. Every number below comes straight from its Google Search Console property.

What I did
1. Pick a narrow, fast-moving topic
aioseo.fr covers one subject: how AI search (Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot) changes visibility, written from a practitioner's point of view. A narrow topic lets a new site build topical authority quickly instead of competing head-on with established SEO media.
2. Be first on the news that matters to the niche
When Google confirmed, then launched, AI Overviews and AI Mode in France, aioseo.fr covered it right away (the launch article went out on July 22, 2026, launch day) and kept the articles updated. Those articles now rank around positions 5 to 7 and are the site's most-clicked pages.
3. Report from the field
Recaps of Google Search Central Live (Zurich 2025, Paris 2026), VivaTech 2026 and industry events bring first-hand information that AI answers and other blogs can't paraphrase from elsewhere.
4. Publish original tools and comparisons
GEO tool comparisons, a Google Search Console generative AI report guide, and my own free tools (semantic proximity, entity analysis, TimesFM and Prophet forecasting, a multimodal GEO audit with Gemini-Embedding-2) give people a reason to link to the site and to come back.
5. Publish in French and English
Articles are published in French and in English (under /en/), linked with hreflang. The English versions now bring the majority of clicks, well beyond what a French-only site could reach.
6. Make the site easy for search engines and AI to read
WordPress with clean structured data, an llms.txt file, and a robots.txt that explicitly allows search, AI answers and AI training (Content-Signal). The goal is to be crawled, understood and cited by Google and by generative engines alike.
Results
- December 2025First 100-click month; average position improved to 21, from 31 the month before.
- February 202631,112 impressions in a month, three times January.
- April – June 2026Average position around 11, from about 40 a year earlier.
- June – July 2026Best months for clicks (353 and 337), driven by the AI Overviews France coverage.
- August – September 2026Record impressions (36,182 in August) while click-through rates fell after AI Overviews launched in France: the zero-click shift the blog documents.
Takeaways
- GEO starts with SEO. The pages that are cited and clicked are the ones that rank: fast, well-structured, clearly focused.
- Freshness and first-hand information win on topics AI can't summarize from elsewhere yet.
- A second language can double a site's reach for the cost of careful translation and hreflang.
- Measure beyond clicks. As AI answers spread, impressions, positions and citations tell more of the story than clicks alone.
